Former Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) President Tan Sri Mohd Nazmi Salleh has expressed his displeasure with the ongoing match-fixing scandal that seems to be beleaguering the sport.
The world of badminton has been in disarray over the past few days, after two Danish shuttlers admitted that they were approached by a Malaysian for match-fixing purposes during the Japan Open last June.
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has informed relevant police authorities about the case, and the Malaysian law enforcers are also working hand-in-hand with regards to the investigation.
“The investigations are on-going but we don’t have any evidence yet. We are definitely not pleased with the current situation as badminton is one of those sports that’s highly regarded within Malaysia,” he said.
He also went on to suggest that badminton associations from all nations should be actively collaborating in the battle against match-fixers within the sport, adding on that the shuttlers themselves have a pivotal role to play.
“Players have to be actively involved in fighting this as well, even if this situation can be instigated by various factors and reasons.”
