Tengku Abdullah to run for FIFA Exco

The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) President, Tengku Abdullah Shah has announced his decision to stand for the FIFA Exco position.

He will become the first Malaysian to contest for the position, with the election set to be held in April 2015. Three FIFA Exco posts will be up for grabs, and Tengku Abdullah believes that he’s more than capable of being able to give back to Asian football, should he be elected.

“I am pleased to announce my candidacy as a FIFA EXCO member. I am committed to win this election to be able to serve Asia to the best of my capacity,” Prince Abdullah said during a press conference earlier today.

“ I intend to serve Asia as a good team player on a global scale while working with the FIFA president, Josef Sepp Blatter, and AFC President Sheikh Salman to bring Asia to where it belongs; a world super power in football. I’m also pleased to say I have received both their blessings to contest in this election. I have also received support from the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

Tengku Abdullah has been actively involved in football for almost 30 years now, starting out as the Deputy President of the FAM, before having leadership stints with the Asian Football Confederations, ASEAN Football Federation as well as the FIFA Football Comittee.

More recently in May 2014, he defeated the Johor Crown Prince to become the new FAM President, since which he has organized multiple football programs to boost and elevate the status of Malaysian football.
