TMJ clarifies corner flag incident

Tension was visibly high in Larkin last night as Johor DT took on Terengganu for the second leg of their Malaysia Cup quarter final tie; so much so when the final whistle was blown, with the home side securing a 3-1 victory, radiant rapture erupted within the stadium.

Minutes after the final whistle, the Johor Crown Prince ran across the sidelines, before kicking the corner kick flag aggresively, while asking the crowd to be louder. Videos of his antics were posted online, and plenty of rumours and speculations started floating around, especially since the tie was surrounded by plenty of controversy regarding the date postponement.

However, the Johor FA president himself clarified his actions after the game, claiming that it was purely premised upon celebratory reasons.

Before the game, my brother asked me on how am I going to celebrate if we win the game tonight,” he told the Johor Southern Tigers Facebook Page.

“I said that I don’t know, but I might do what Ibrahimovic did by kicking the corner flag. Well, I did just that and looks like I’m getting more attention than he did!”

The first leg of the clash ended 0-0 in Kuala Terengganu, and after having the dates changed twice within the span of one week, the second leg finally took place yesterday, where Johor DT secured a 3-1 win to march into the semis. They are scheduled to face Felda United in the semis, with the first leg slated for kick off on the 20th of October.
