Fernando Alonso has fueled further speculation about a possible switch to McLaren-Honda, after revealing that he doesn’t think a Mercedes engine will power his 2015 car.
The Spaniard’s future continues to hang in the dark, following Red Bull’s announcement of Sebastian Vettel’s departure and his unofficial decision to terminate his contract with Ferrari two years early.
The Scuderia however has remained tight-lipped on the matter, even though Alonso’s exit is now considered inevitable. He has since been linked to two possible teams next year, namely McLaren-Honda and Lotus-Mercedes.
However, given his recent hint, it would rule out a move to Lotus as the team had confirmed over the Sochi weekend, that they would be switching to Mercedes power units next season.
The other teams on the grid who won’t be using Mercedes engines in 2015 are Red Bull, Toro Rosso, Caterham, Sauber, Marussia and Alonso’s current team, Ferrari.
Alonso again stressed to his fans to be patient for an announcement on his 2015 plans, as he would definitely consider the best option for his future and for Ferrari.
