Roger Federer’s win at the Shanghai Masters has pulled him up to the second spot in the ATP world rankings, making it the first time he has been that high since May 2013.
The Swiss is currently over 3,000 points behind top-ranked Novak Djokovic, though he did have the satisfaction of defeating the Serb in straight sets at the semi finals in Shanghai.
Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal dropped down to third in the rankings, with Australian Open champion Stan Wawrinka maintaining his position in fourth, despite an early exit in China to Gilles Simon.
The Frenchman went on to reach the final where he lost to Federer, but that was more than enough to boost him up 11 places to 18th.
