The Kuala Lumpur based Badminton World Federation (BWF) earlier today confirmed making two reports of alleged match fixing to authorities in Denmark.
The two Danish players involved, Hans Kristian Vittinghus and Kim Astrup, were reportedly approached by an unidentified Malaysian to fix their matches at the Japan Open back in June. Both of them were said to have rejected the offers and reported the matter immediately after to the BWF.
In an interview with Malaysian-based daily The Star Online, the Badminton Association of Malaysia said it was shocked and saddened to hear that a local was involved in the scandal, and offered their full support to the world body to curb this problem and bring the culprit to justice.
BAM adds that a proposal will also be tabled soon, to set up a whistle-blowing system in their own national set-up, where players can report to them immediately if they are approached to throw or fix their matches.
Meanwhile, BWF has praised the two Danish players for rejecting the offer, and coming forward to report the matter.
