Mesut Ozil out for 12 weeks with knee injury

An MRI scan of Mesut Ozil’s left knee in Munich earlier today revealed a damaged joint that could see the Arsenal record signing sidelined for up to twelve weeks, according to a report by BBC Sport.

The German international, who is currently with the reigning world champions, may have aggravated the injury having played the full 90 minutes against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday for the Gunners.

The German Football Association were quick to release a statement surrounding the predicament.

“The MRI examination revealed a partial rupture of the outer band of the left knee joint” the statement said.
“Mesut Ozil is likely to be out [for] 10 to 12 weeks”.

Being a key cog within ‘Die Mannschaft’ and their World Cup triumph in the summer, Ozil’s injury will keep him out of vital Euro 2016 qualifiers against Poland and the Republic of Ireland on the 11th and 14th of this month respectively.

The playmaker’s unavailability for selection until after the Christmas period will also mean he will miss some tough fixtures for Arsenal, including Liverpool away, Manchester United at home, and a tough champions league fixture in Galatasaray away.

Since joining from Real Madrid for a club record shattering £42 million, his arrival was hailed as the potential start of a new era for Arsenal.

Having bagged just eight goals in 46 starts however, some have argued that his displays have been lethargic, though others have hailed his wider extrinsic impact on the team.
