Bundesliga side Schalke have appointed former Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo as their new head coach, following their dismal start to the new season.
The ex-Italy international will be replacing Jens Keller, in what will be his first managerial role since he was dismissed by Chelsea in November 2012.
Keller was in charge of the team up until last weekend, where they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Hoffenheim, which leaves them struggling at 11th spot on the league table.
Schalke have managed to only muster eight points out of their first seven games, losing three times already this season. Their Champions League campaign also depicts struggle, with two draws thus far, while they were also knocked out of the German Cup by third division side Dynamo Dresden.
Di Matteo comes in with an impressive CV, having clinched the Champions League and FA Cup title as a caretaker boss with Chelsea in 2012. He was then afforded a permanent deal, but a slow start to the new season prompted the Blues to hand him the sack.
