Football Association of Malaysia has confirmed the appointment of Frank Bernhardt as the new head coach of the Malaysian U-23 squad.
The experienced German was in the running alongside Michael Weiss as well as Datuk Ong Kim Swee, but after a two months of thorough consideration, FAM opted to secure Frank’s signature.
The 46 year-old comes in with the experience of having coached the Estonian U19 and U21 team from 2007 to 2012. Prior to that, he spearheaded teams of various age groups at FC St. Pauli.
This officially ends Datuk Ong Kim Swee’s role with the U23 squad, having been in charge of them since 2009. That being said, he’s still the interim head coach of the senior team and is in the running to take charge of them permanently.
