In order to qualify in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong will have to sweat more, do more and work harder than ever to deliver sheer brilliance into their results.
Both men are currently ranked 15th, according to the BWF World Ranking, just two ranks above their seniors Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong, who are also having the same aim of entering the Olympics next year. The pressure is getting on to the young pair as Kien Keat and Boon Heong are slowly approaching them in terms of rankings.
“In the last two competitions (China and Hong Kong Open), we did not really present our best. This sort of game-play really cannot continue in the future. We need to at least make it into the quarter-finals of any Super Series in order to gather more points to qualify,” said V Shem as quoted from China Press.
“Kien Keat and Boon Heong currently have a fighting chance of qualifying in the Olympics. Their rankings are improving rapidly and it definitely puts the pressure on us. Our aim is to be on the podium for the USA International Series (November 30) and the Mexico City Grand Prix next month,” adds the 26 year-old.
V Shem had also vowed that the pair would try their best to make it to the top eight in the BWF World rankings.
“To qualify in the Olympics next year is our dream and we will work harder to achieve it.”
